BNP criticises Inu for his ‘Criticism of ‘Zia Family’

BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan on Thursday suggested the government to create a new ministry styled ‘Zia family criticism affairs’ and give current Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu its charge.

“The way he (Inu) has been working, he should be called as Zia family criticism affairs minister. Though there’s no such ministry as per our constitution, the government can create it if it wants,” he said.

Speaking at a discussion, he further said, “As there’s no such ministry, he (Inu) is doing that job being the Information Minister.”

Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa), one of the components of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, organised the programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release.

Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, harshly criticised Inu for his comment that BNP-Jamaat must be eliminated from the country. “What a democratic language it is!”

He warned the government that people are getting angry over the misdeeds of the government and unguarded remarks by the ministers. “They (people) are waiting to bring a change in regime.”

The BNP leader said their party wants to join the next general election so that people can bring a change in power through exercising their right to franchise. “But, we won’t take part in a farce like city polls ones in the name of national election under the current government.”

He hoped that their chairperson Khaleda Zia will be freed from jail and BNP join the polls under a non-party administration under her leadership. “We must wage a strong movement if she (Khaleda) couldn’t be released through a legal battle.”

Nazrul said the nation is passing through a very bad time as the current government without having people’s mandate is running the country.

Mentioning that the government often talks about corruption by BNP leaders, he questioned why the government is not taking action against the ruling party men who are involved in widespread corruption in the financial sector.
