BNP demands Khaleda’s personal physician treats her

Dhaka, April 6 – The BNP has demanded allowing personal physicians of chairperson Khaleda Zia to visit their indisposed leader at old central jail where she remains interned since February 8.BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the demand after meeting her at the jail on Friday saying that the chairperson is really ill.
“The health condition of the chairperson is good. She needs consultation with her personal physicians,” he said.
Her arthritis problem has increased and she also finds it difficult to walk and she suffering from nervous disorder, said the leader.
He regretted that the chairperson is not getting treatment what she needs and her personal physicians are still not allowed to meet her.
The BNP leader however said the moral of former premier is high but steps must be taken to necessary measures for her necessary treatment.
The government physicians examined the health condition of the chairperson. But we want the government to take measures so that her personal physicians can provide her treatment, he said.
Mirza Alamgir further said since Khaleda is not used to live in prison it is normal that her imprisonment would definitely influence her to some extent. But her morale is very high. She is even stronger mentally then us, he added.
He quoted Khaleda as saying, “Don’t worry about me, I am strong and fine, such little things will not create any trouble for me.”
The BNP leader said they are talking always that the government is not taking measures for her as it is required. We urged the government to allow her personal physicians and provide treatment through them, he said.
Replying to a question, he said the current political impasse only can be resolved through establishing democracy in the country.
The chairperson asked us to continue the ongoing movement for restoration of democracy and she thinks that the government should take measures taking the matter into cognizance.
Mirza Alamgir entered the central jail at 4:45pm and stayed there for about one hour.
Earlier on March 29, he postponed his meeting with Khaleda as he had to return from half through way after listening that Khaleda has fallen sick. He along with standing committee members met the former present last on March 7.
A special Jude’s court sentenced Khaleda Zia for five years in Zia orphanage trust graft case and sent her to the prison on February 8.
Earlier, speaking at a discussion meeting at Dhaka Reporters Unity, Mirza Alamgir categorically said that there would be no talks before the release of Khaleda Zia.
“The release of Deshnetri is our number one demand. She has to be freed. Then, there will be talks over anything,” he said while speaking a discussion meeting of Jatiya Ganotantrik Party (Jagpa). – Staff Reporter
