‘BNP has candidates three times the No. of Parliament seats’

Dhaka – The BNP has 900 candidates against the 300 parliamentary constituencies across the country to take part in the next elections, says party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.“If there is an election-time supportive government and there is a congenial atmosphere for polls, the BNP is always ready to take part in the elections,” he said while talking to reporters after placing wreath at the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar yesterday.
He along with leaders of Sramik Dal, workers front of the BNP, placed wreath to mark the 38th founding anniversary of the organization.
Replying to a question he said there is no necessity to compare BNP’s work with the ruling Awami League. “BNP is a pro-election political party and its believe in elections,” he added.
The BNP secretary general alleged that the path of democracy is being squeezed further. The AL cannot understand they are being isolated from people squeezing the path of democracy further, he said.
“They (AL) are establishing the one-party ruling. If a free and fair election is held they would see their position the people left for them,” he said.
Replying to another question, he said the 51 organising committees formed earlier to visit 77 organizational districts are carrying out their works.
He told another questioner that if there is a fair election elections it would be understood as to how much corruption they have committed.
BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan alleged that the wage of workers is being reduced with the price hike of essential commodities.
He said workers are being killed as the work place is not safe.
Sramik Dal president Anwar Hossain and general secretary Nurul Islam Khan Nasim, among others, were present on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
