BNP leader Habibunnabi Sohel put on remand

Dhaka, Sept 19 – BNP Joint Secretary General Habib-Un-Nabi Khan Sohel was Wednesday placed on a five-day remand in a sabotage case. Metropolitan Magistrate AHM Toaha of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the remand order after hearing the submissions of the defence and the prosecution on Wednesday.
Earlier, investigation officer and Ramna Zonal Team (South) Detective Branch of Police SI Abdul Karim produced Sohel before the court with a plea of 10 days’ remand.
The remand petition says that on January 30, the BNP leaders and activities stopped the movement of vehicles at Kadam Foara Crossing of Shahbagh Police Station, after BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia’s car reached there after her appearance at the makeshift court of Old Dhaka. On the occasion, police arrested-accused Obaidul Haque Nasir and Karim Sarker were in a police van while BNP activities snatched them away from the van in presence of Sohel and following his instruction.
Advocates Mosley Uddin Jasim, Omar Faruque Faruqi, Joynal Abedin Mesba and others sought rejection of remand and sought Sohel’s bail. Sohel was arrested on Tuesday evening from Gulshan area of the city. – Special Correspondent
