BNP leaders refused bail: 36-hour hartal from Tuesday

Opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance has called countrywide 36-hour shutdown from Tuesday demanding restoration of caretaker government and release of their leaders. The decision came from a meeting of the 18-party alliance held at BNP Chairperson Office at Gulshan in the city on Sunday afternoon.

After the meeting, Standing Committee Member of BNP Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain briefed journalists.

The senior leader of the party told journalists that the 18-party would enforce the hartal demanding restoration of caretaker government and immediate release of party’s top leaders.

Regarding bail of Barrister Moudud, Barkatullah Bulu and Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Dr Mosharraf said, “It is not enough to grant bail to three leaders only. All have to be granted bail.”

Earlier in the afternoon, a Dhaka court granted bail to three BNP lawmakers—Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barkatullah Bulu and Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie—in several vandalism, arson and blast cases.

The court, however, rejected the bail prayers of BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amanullah Aman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Abdullah Al Noman and Moazzem Hossain Alal in the cases. banglanews24.com
