BNP not to join polls without Khaleda: Mosharraf

Dhaka, July 7 – BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday said their party will not join the next parliamentary elections without Khaleda Zia.“The government is making various efforts to mislead our leaders and create misunderstanding among us as it wants to hold the election without the participation of our leader (Khaleda), 20-party and people,” he said.
Speaking at a discussion, he further said, “We would like to say democracy won’t be restored without Khaleda Zia’s release. The participation of all the parties in the next general election won’t be ensured without the restoration of democracy. And BNP and the 20-party won’t join such polls.”
Khelafat Majlish, one of the components of the 20-party alliance, organised the programme at the Jatiya Press Club.
Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, also said their party will not participate in the national election under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, no matter what.
He said the ruling party leaders are trying to confuse people with their assertions that BNP and the 20-party will join the next polls. “People are now decided not to join the polls under Sheikh Hasina after observing the January-5, 2014 polls.”
The BNP leader said the ruling party men are now deeply worried about their fate as they know Awami League will face a massive debacle if a fair election is held.
He’ however, said their party will not resort to the politics of vengeance if it returns to power with people’s mandate.
The BNP leader also said their party will wage a strong movement after forging a national unity to oust the current government and realise their party’s demand for holding the next polls under a non-party neutral administration.
He urged BNP leaders and activists to get ready and unite the people of all walks of life for launching a strong movement.
