Dhaka – The leaders of BNP have emphasised on the formation of polls-time government and deployment of army to hold a free, fair and acceptable election.Speaking at separate events, the leaders also urged the government to form an election time government by dissolving the parliament before the polls.
“If the (next general) election is held without formation of election-time neutral government by dissolving the parliament and deployment of army it will be repetition of January 5, 2014 election,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Terming poll-time government and deployment of army keys for an acceptable election, he said a meaningful general election is not possible unless a party-neutral poll-time government is installed army is not deployed.
“Country’s “existing political crisis” wouldn’t come to an end if a meaningful election is not held,” he further said.
The BNP leader was talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman in Agargaon in the capital.
He reiterated that the Election Commission’s dialogue with different stakeholders including the political parties was an eyewash.
Mirza Alamgir along with leaders of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, the youth front of the BNP, paid homage to the BNP’s founder Zia on the occasion of its 39th founding anniversary.
BNP vice chairman Barkatullah Bulu, chairperon’s adviser Amanullah Aman, joint secretary general Syed MOazzem Hossain Alal, Juba Dal president Saiful Alam Nirob, secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, among others, were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile speaking at a function at the National Press Club, BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said that it is the aspiration of the people that army would be deployed during the polls with magistracy power.
“Army should be deployed during the polls. Holding a fair election will not be possible without deployment of army,” he said adding that the ruling Awami League is opposing army deployment as they are apprehending that they would not be able to capture polling centers and stuffing ballot boxes.
He also demanded creating level playing field to ensure participation of all political parties.
