BNP shrugs off allegation of Mossad connection

Dismissing State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam’s allegation that BNP is plotting with Mossad to return to power, its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said their party has no link with the Israeli intelligence agency.

“The state minister for foreign affairs has said they’ve enough evidence that BNP is conspiring with Mossad for which they can ban BNP. We want to clearly say BNP has no relation with Israel,” he said. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

Fakhrul further said, “BNP doesn’t believe in any conspiracy as it’s a liberal democratic party. “BNP believes in returning to power only through elections. It also thinks the government can be changed only through polls, not by any other means.”

The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shahriar said, “We’ve information that they (BNP) are trying to portray Bangladesh as a fanatic state and convince the Israeli intelligence agency that its relations with Israel will improve if BNP comes to power.”

Replying to a question, the state minister also said they have enough information about BNP’s meeting with Mossad. “If those are put together, the government ‘can ban BNP overnight.”

Fakhrul said some newspapers also reported that BNP has a connection with Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

“It’s not correct information. We want to equivocally say BNP has full support to Palestinian people’s struggle for their rights and sovereignty. We’ve repeatedly talked in favour of it at different forums and in the United Nations,” he said.

He said BNP always protests against Israeli aggression against Palestinian people and attacks on them. “Our party is always beside Palestinian people, and will remain so in the days to come.”

He said their party joint Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury went to India on his own initiative and their party has no relation with it. “It’s his personal visit.”

Sought BNP’s reaction to the execution of war criminal and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Fakhrul said, “We’d earlier made our party’s stand clear on the matter. We’re always in favour of the trial of war criminals, but it has to be fair and transparent without any political motive.
