BNP to hold public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan Sunday

Dhaka, Sept 27 – The BNP will hold its public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on Sunday as it refused to take permission for Saturday, according to party sources. Police sources said the BNP has been declined permission considering the overall situation. Earlier, the BNP wanted to hold the meeting either at Suhrawardy Udyan or in front of the party central office on September 27 and deferred date twice.
The BNP had been advised to hold its rally at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh but they did not accept it. The applied for holding the rally on Sunday instead, according to the sources.
“We have applied to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) anew seeking permission to hold our rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Sunday. We do hope that police will give us permission tomorrow (Friday) said BNP assistant organizing secretary Abdus Salam Azad.
He said a two-member BNP delegation led by BNP’s publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie yesterday met the acting DMP commissioner Md Shahabuddin Quraishee and discussed the permission for the party meeting.
After emerging from the meeting, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie said they went to the DMP for permission for the rally.
“If the DMP does not give us permission for Saturday, we want to hold the public meeting on Sunday. The authorities, however, did not convey us anything about it,” he said.
Abdus Salam Azad, another member of the BNP team hoped that they would get permission tomorrow to hold the public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on Sunday.
Party sources said the BNP would deliver policymaking statements from the rally over the national unity, next elections and Jamaat issue. – Staff Reporter
