BNP Vice-Chairmen support move for greater national unity

Dhaka, Sept 10 – BNP vice chairmen at a meeting with party standing committee members on Monday extended their full support to the party move to forge a greater national unity with like-minded parties to force the government hold the next general elections in a free, fair and inclusive manner. Most of the vice-chairmen out of 22 who joined the meeting at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office also agreed even to offer some concession to the like-minded parties for the sake of greater unity, according to meeting sources.
Talking to journalists, several vice-chairmen who were present at the one and half an hour long meeting said, many of them observed that the party should not take part in the forthcoming election with chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail.
“No Khaleda, no election.” This was the sentiment of almost all the vice chairmen who attended the meeting, said a vice chairman declining to be quoted.
He said the meeting chaired by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been arranged to have views of the vice chairmen of the party about the movement to free Khaleda, forging national unity and participation in the polls.
The vice chairmen also opinion in favour of the party demands for the release of Khaleda, to hold the next polls under a neutral administration after the dissolution of parliament, reconstitution of the Election Commission and deployment of the army during polls. – Staff Reporter
