BNP vows to take to street against ‘anti-state deal’

Dhaka – The BNP will take to the street taking people with them if the government signs any anti-state agreement with India during the ensuing visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to New Delhi.
The BNP standing committee, the highest policymaking body, took the decision at a meeting last night with party chairperson Khaleda Zia in the chair.Since the party (BNP) is not aware about the agreements to be signed during the premier’s visit, that’s why we will closely observe whatever agreements are going to be signed. The BNP will take to the street taking people with us if the government signs any agreement against the interest of the country, said a standing committee member after the one and half an hours long meeting.
He said the meeting began at 9:30pm strongly condemned and protested the killing of Juba Dal leader Nuru in Chittagong and decided to stage demonstration across the country to protest the brutal incident.
The meeting expressed satisfaction over the victory of party’s mayoral cadidate Monirul Islam Sakku in the just concluded Comilla City Corporation polls.
Some standing committee members however claimed that if a level plying is created and the election was held in afree and fair manner the BNP candidate would have won the poll with a margin of 50,000 votes, according to meeting sources.
The meeting also decided carrying out issue based movement.
After emerging from the meeting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the meeting discussed the latest development in the political arena and party strategies.
He said the decision would be disclosed through a press conference at party central office at 1:00pm today. – Staff Reporter
