BNP walks out protesting indecent remarks

The BNP has walked out of Parliament again, protesting against a ruling party MP’s indecent remark about Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia.The comment by Apu Ukil came four days after Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury issued a ‘tough warning’ against using ‘un-parliamentary’ language.
The Speaker on that day had warned the Members of Parliament that microphones will be turned off if anyone made any indecent statements in the House.
During a discussion on the proposed budget for the 2013-14 fiscal on Thursday, Ukil showed the House a book titled ‘War in 1965 between Pakistan and India’ by a Pakistani army officer, Siddique Salik.
She continued ignoring the Speaker’s call to speak on the budget and claimed the book mentioned Laxmi Rani Marma as Khaleda’s mother.
Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali was presiding over Parliament. Both the Leader of Parliament Sheikh Hasina and BNP chief Khaleda were absent then.
She also commented on the marriage of Khaleda with late President Ziaur Rahman, which were protested immediately by Acting Chief Whip Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee and other BNP lawmakers.
Anee then stood up and demanded that those ‘unparliamentarily’ and ‘indecent’ words be expunged from the records and her microphone turned of.
He also threatened to walk out if those were not done.
Soon after that, they came out of the assembly.
Earlier, BNP lawmaker Nilufar Chowdhury Moni told Parliament: “The Prime Minister has said the opposition leader leaves her bed at 12pm. If she can say so, we can utter things much worse than that”.
She claimed Khaleda regularly says special prayers and can complete reading Quran in 10 days.
The BNP had last walked out on Jun 16 over the same reason.
