The BNP on Tuesday warned that the government would have to face dire consequence if it tries to remove the grave of the party founder and late President Ziaur Rahman from the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
“It will lead to a severe situation in the country if the government tries to relocate the majar of independence proclaimer Ziaur Rahman,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan, the nationalist forces would build resistance at the cost of their lives to halt the government from taking such move.
“The grave has been in the hearts of crores of people. It the government tries to go for such an audacious act we will not let the government to make its move a success,” he said.
The BNP leader’s comments came following the Parliament move to bring the original design of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban made by Louis I Kahn, main architect of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban from Pennsylvania University. Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury had a joint meeting at Sangsad Bhaban with housing minister, chief architect and officials of parliament on March 29 over the issue.
Earlier, Minister for Housing and Public Works Khandker Mosharrof Hossain said that the government would relocate all unapproved structures situated inside the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban area.
Rizvi said the mazar is located far away from the Sangsad Bhaban premises and it does not create any problems to the functioning of the Parliament business.
He alleged that the government is hatching conspiracy tro shift the mazar from political vendetta.
The issue has been brought to the fore just to suppress the cyber heist of Bangladesh Bank reserve money and election engineering in the UP elections, he said.
