BNP’s 15-day prog to observe Zia’s death anniv

BNP on Sunday chalked out a 15-day programme to observe the 35th death anniversary of its founder Ziaur Rahman.The observance of Zia’s death anniversary will begin on May 20 and end on June 3.
The programmes were finalised at a joint meeting of the party held at its Nayapaltan central office with party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the chair.
After the meeting, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programmes that include arranging discussion meetings, milad mahfil, art and easy competitions and free medical camps, wearing black badges, publishing posters and supplements in newspapers and distributing food among the destitute.
Ziaur Rahman who founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1978 was assassinated by a cabal of army officers at Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981.
On May, 30, Rizvi said black flags will be hoisted and party flags kept at half mast atop the offices of the party and its associate bodies, including Nayapaltan central one, at 6am.
Besides, leaders and activists of the party, led by its chairperson Khaleda Zia, will place wreaths at Zia’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on the day.
Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal will organise a Doa Mahfil on the premises of Zia’s grave while Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arrange a voluntary blood donation programme there.
DAB will also provide free medical treatment and medicine in front of the party’s central office the same day.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will distribute food among the destitute at different thanas in the capital on May 30, 31 and June 1 to be arranged by Dhaka city unit BNP.
BNP will organise a discussion meeting at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on May 31 on the occasion.
BNP’s different associate bodies will arrange various programmes, including discussion, from May 20 to June 3 in observance of the death anniversary.
The party’s all district, city and thana units will also observe the day amid various programmes, Rizvi said.
Fakhrul urged his party men to observe their founder’s death anniversary with due respect.
“Ziaur Rahman had restored democracy and people’s freedom of speech in the country. He had also initiated a revolution of the country’s development with various programmes. We want to observe his death anniversary with due honour.”
