BNP’s Anwar on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed BNP’s Dhaka City Joint-Convener Anwaruzzaman Anwar on a five-day remand.Magistrate Aminul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after Mohamadpur police station sub-inspector and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case Aminul Islam produced the accused to the court seeking a 10-day remand to quiz him.
Besides, police sought 140 days’ remand against the BNP leader in 14 cases, 10 in each case. Of the cases four cases were filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station while the remaining 10 were filed with Tejgaon police station. The cases were filed from March to December of this year on the charges of attacking police, vandalising vehicles, arson and bomb explosion.
The hearing of remand in the 14 cases will be held on the day, when the accused would be produced to the court after the instant 5-day remand, a court source added.
On Wednesday Anwaruzzaman, also a former ward commissioner from Mohammadpur area in the capital allegedly with 10 crackers. – Court Correspondent
