Bnp’s case taken after 18 hrs: AL accuses 100 unknown men

Police has finally accepted a case lodged by BNP against over hundred unknown persons in connection with Monday’s attack on Khaleda Zia’s motorcade at Karwan Bazar while she was campaigning for party-backed mayoral aspirant Tabiht Awal for Dhaka North City Corporation.
BNP chairperson’s security adviser Fazle Elahi Akbar lodged the case at 12:05pm on Tuesday with Tejgaon police station.
Earlier, pro-BNP lawyers including Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokan, who went to the police station with the plaintiff, accused the police of dillydallying with the recording of the case. Advocate Sanaullah Miah, Masum Ahmed Talukder, among others, were also present on the occasion.Tejgaon Thana officer-in-charge Majharul Islam confirmed that they have accepted the case filed by the BNP.
He however, rejected the BNP allegation that they were dillydallying with lodging the case.
“I was outside of the office. After reaching the police station, I have accepted the cases by going through the matter,” he said saying, “The allegation was absurd.”
Soon after the incident earlier on Monday night president of Ward-26 Awami League Zahirul Haque Zillu filed a case against 100 unknown persons responsible for Monday’s attack.
OC Majharul said that in his FIR, Zillur accused the chairperson’s security force and BNP activists for shouting to catch the ruling party men who were also campaining for their candidates.
The additional deputy commissioner of police (Tegaon zone) Wahidul Islam also confirmed that Tejgaon Thana police has accepted the case in the afternoon against unknown persons.
He said the ruling Awami League also filed a case against unknown 100 persons on Monday.
The convenor of pro-BNP professional group Adarsha Dhaka Andolon Prof Emajuddin Ahmed yesterday alleged that Monday’s attack and firing at Khaleda Zia’s motorcade was aimed at killing her but she survived as her vehicle was bullet proof.
“The government and ruling party should be repentent for the incident but they rather filed a case against 100 persons including the members of her (Khaleda’s) security force,” he said while addressing a press conference at Adarsha Dhaka Andolon office at Paltan in the city.
The former vice chancellor of Dhaka University referred to the newspaper report and said that one Chhatra League activist Al-Amin led the attack but it is regretful that the prime minister termed the incident as a drama of Khaleda Zia.
He alleged that the “AL terrorists have carried out the attack on Khaleda’s motorcade after the premier and her colleagues made provocative statements. – Staff Reporter
