An activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student affiliate of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (Bnp) was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in the city’s Khilgaon area early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nuruzzaman Jony, 30, son of Yaqub Hossain of 113, Tilpapar in Khilgaon area of the capital and secretary of JCD’s Tilpara unit.When contacted, sub-inspector Arif of Khilgaon Police Station said the incident took place at ‘Jura Pukurpar’ around 3:15 am.
Jony received severe bullet injuries during ‘a gunfight’ with detectives and succumbed to his injuries while he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he added.
SI Arif did not elaborate why the exchange of fire took place and whether there was any recovery of arms. Bss reported: An alleged criminal was killed in a gunfight with members of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the main gate of Balurmat of Railgate Jhor Pukurpar under Khilgaon Police Station in the early hours today.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) of DB media wing Iftekhairul Islam confirmed the news saying, “He died in a gunfight at about 3am.”
Dhaka Medical College and Hospital sources said, “The deceased was identified as Nuruzzman Jony, 30, Khilgaon thana unit general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).” The body bore 15 injury marks, they added.
Sub-Inspector Md Alauddin of Khilgaon Police Station said he only brought the body to DMCH at about 4 am. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
JCD office secretary Abdus Sattar Patwary told UNB that the plainclothes police picked up Jony from Khilgaon sometimes after midnight on Monday. Jony was returning home after visiting him, he added. Nazmul Hasan vice president of the central committee of JCD said Jony was the general secretary of the Khilgaon unit of their organisaton.
Later, the body of Jony was identified by his father at the DMCH morgue.
Earlier on Monday, another suspected miscreant was killed by the members of the DB in Motijheel AGB Colony area. He was later identified as the Commissioner of No 1 ward of Narail Municipality.- UNB
