Dhaka, May 28 – The BNP on Tuesday hosted an iftar mahfil in the honour of political leaders and members of the civil society people with a budget of Tk 30 for each to express honour to party’s jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Leaders of different political parties in the folds of Jatiya Oikyafront and 20-party alliance took part in the iftar mahfil held at Ladies Club in the city.
The iftar items include two pieces of dates, one piece of ‘piyanjo’, one piece of ‘jilepi’, one piece of ‘beguni,’ a spoon of fried rice and gram each and a small bottle of water.
Speaking the iftar mahfil, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the party chairperson is allotted Tk 30 for iftar and the iftar mahfil with the same budget for each has been arranged in honor of her (Khaleda).
He mentioned that the former premier had a major contribution in democratic movement and said now she has been confined in the prison in graft cases.
The BNP leader accused the government of destroying all the democratic institutions to establish one-party rule.
“We are heading towards a severe consequence,” he said.
