Bodies of 2 Jamaat men exhumed in Rangpur

Rangpur – The bodies of two local leaders of Jamaat–e-Islami and its student body Islami Chhatra Shibir in Pirgachha upazila were exhumed from their respective family graveyards for postmortems on Saturday, 40 days after their burial. Police exhumed the bodies of Merazul Islam, 39, former president of Parul union unit of Jamaat from a graveyard at Gunjurkhan village while that of Hadiuzzaman, 35, president Deuti Bazar unit of Shibir at Birahim village, at noon in presence of executive magistrate Mizanur Rahman and additional police super Humayun Kabir. Later, the bodies were sent to  Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The two bodies were exhumed as investigation officer of the case Saidur Rahman filed a petition for more probes into the case filed for attacks on polling officers.
Merazul, son of late Azimuddin of Deuti area, and Hadiuzzaman, son of Wazar Mia of Birahimpur area, were killed in a gunfight with police in Deuti High School polling centre on January 4 night, a day before the 10th parliamentary election.
They were later buried in their respective family graveyards without post- mortems. – UNB
