Five supporters of BNP were injured as some crude bombs hurled allegedly by local activists of the ruling Awami League exploded at a polling centre in Gangni upazila on Thursday.
Of the injured, Basir Udddin, 45, was admitted to Gangni Upzila Health Complex.Witnesses said some AL activists allegedly forced the agents of the
pro-BNP candidates out of the Kesabnagar Government Primary School polling centre moment before the voting started.Supporters of the both parties then locked in a face-off in the middle of Bholadanga-Kesabnagar village, creating a tense situation.At one stage, the AL activists hurled several crude bombs, leaving five people belonging to the BNP camp injured.Angered by the explosions, BNP activists later vandalised houses of two AL supporters and assaulted wives of them as they tried to resist them (attackers).On information, army and police teams rushed to the spot and quelled the unrest. -UNB, Meherpur
