Amid fear of violence following the announcement of the schedule for the 10th parliamentary polls, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were deployed in the capital to maintain the law and order.Sources at the BGB headquarters said the paramilitary force started taking position at different strategic points of city from the evening.
Contacted, Senior Public Relations Officer of BGB Mohammed Mohsin Reza confirmed it, saying the BGB members were deployed alongside police and other law enforcement agencies as part of maintaining the law-and-order situation in the city.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the election schedule in his televised address to the nation on Monday.
During his 24-minute address that began at 7:35 pm, the CEC said the next general election will be held on January 5.
At least six vehicles were torched and four crude bombs exploded in different places of the capital on Monday night, just after Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the schedule for the next general election.

Sources at the Fire Brigade headquarters said a vehicle carrying police was set on fire in front police box at Farmgate around 9:15pm.
Miscreants torched a bus at Abdullahpur at about 8:30 pm, at Pallabi at about 8:40 pm, one at Gabtali at about 9:10 pm and another one near Abul Hotel at Malibagh Chowdhurypara at about 9:30.
A CNG-run auto-rickshaw was also set alight at Bangla Motor at about 9:35 pm.
Four crude bombs were blasted at Malibagh around 8:40pm.
However, no causality was reported in the incidents. – UNB
