Boro rice procurement in progresst in Gaibandha

Boro rice procurement drives of food department has been progressing
fast in the district since May 19 amid much enthusiasm to the millers.
Office sources said the government has fixed a target to procure
23,619 tonnes of boiled rice and 1,080 tonnes of atap rice from the
millers through 11 purchasing centers of all the seven upazilas in the
district during the current Boro season.
Price of per kg of boiled rice and per kg of atap rice has also been
fixed at TK 29 and 28 respectively, the sources said.
To make the Boro rice procurement drive a grand success, the
department of food has also performed their agreement with the 640
millers of the district.
Of the total, some 4,205 tonnes of rice had already been purchased
from the millers, said an official of the food department.M. Saiful
Alam, district controller of food, told BSS that the rice procurement
target might be achieved easily as the department was getting positive
response from the millers.Necessary measures had also been taken to
procure the paddy from the farmers so that they would get fair prices
against their food grain to earn economical benefit, he also said.
On the other hand, with the launching of the procurement drives of
rice the price of the same is in rising trend in all the local markets
of the district, market sources said.
