Dhaka, 01 Jan – Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) will construct a Parjatan hotel including a Parjatan Training Centre on Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) land in Barisal.BIWTA chairman Commodore M Mozammel Huq and BPC chairman Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of their respective organizations in this regard at the shipping ministry yesterday with the presence of shipping minister Shajahan Khan.
Among others, civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon, civil aviation and tourism ministry secretary SM Golam Faruk and acting shipping secretary Abdus Samad were also present during the signing ceremony.
“The BIWTA will give one acre of land to BPC adjacent to the river Kirtankhola for construction of the hotel and training centre. The hotel will be eye-catching, which would help to attract the tourists. Besides, it would also help the national economy,” Shajahan Khan told reporters after the signing ceremony.
The BPC will enjoy the BIWTA land as licensed land for 30 years, the minister said, adding that the BPC will bear all the construction cost.
As per MoU, the BPC will have to deposit Tk five lakh to BIWTA account, which is refundable. Besides, the annual license fee including VAT will be Tk 2.30 lakh for renewal, which should be paid by the BPC to BIWTA, the MoU said.
According to the MoU, license fee will be increased by two percent in every year to renew the license as per BIWTA’s land management and existing duty chart.
The hotel and training centre will be constructed at BIWTA’s abolished shipping factory area’s north-west side in Barisal.
As per MoU, the BPC will bear all the costs by their own fund for construction, development and maintenance works.
The agreement tenure will be for 30 years as per MoU and BPC will have to pay the license fee every year as per MoU.
Besides, license fee will be increased in every 10 years through discussion with both sides and the agreement will be renewed again after completing the agreement period after 30 years.
If BPC won’t interest to extend the agreement—the land will again go to BIWTA possession as per MoU.- Staff Reporter
