BRAC Varsity training on procurement, supply

The Institute of Governance Studies (IGS), BRAC University is going to offer Professional Training Programme on Procurement and Supply ChainTraining Title: Strategic Procurement
Is Procurement Really Strategic:
Traditionally, procurement has always been viewed as an operational activity. It is only in recent years that the value of purchasing and supply management has been recognized and this recognition has given it a place in the boardroom. Most organizations now develop procurement and supply strategies that help support and implement the overall corporate strategy.
Strategic procurement is not just a fancy name for purchasing or cost reduction. Instead, Strategic procurement is the process of “planning, implementing, evaluating, and controlling strategic and operating purchasing decisions for directing all activities of the purchasing function toward opportunities consistent with the firm’s capabilities to achieve its long-term goals”. The purchasing function can play an instrumental role in supporting the firm’s strategic positioning & competitive advantage.
Tactical procurement is typically a subset of activities and processes within the strategic purchasing approach.
Strategic procurement is an integral part of a wider business strategy to improve profitability and, in turn, shareholder value. It is directly linked and specific to the business, and illustrates opportunities within the supply base to either reduce cost or increase the value of products or services required by the business.
