Brick falling from 4-storey building kills infant in Mirpur

Dhaka, Jan 11 – An infant of 16-day age died in a tragic accident Friday in Jonaki road beside Mirpur 60 feet road area at 10 am in the morning.
The deceased identified as Abdullah, son of Kabir Hossain, a private car driver and a resident in the area. The kid died because a piece of brick fall on hin from a four-storey building while he was brought out in the sun in the lap of his aunt Tamim Sultana.
Dadon Fakir, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station said that Tamim Sultana was standing in front of that four-storey building holding Abdullah in her lap enjoying the sun when a five-inch brickbat hit the aunt in the head. The brick then bounced onto Abdullah’s head and gravely injured him as well.
A three-year old child accidentally dropped a piece of brick from the rooftop of that building while playing with other children around 10:00am.
“It was an accident. That’s why we handed over the infant to their parents without any autopsy,” Dadon Fakir added.
After the incident, the baby was first took to Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital at Sher-e- Bangla Nagar and then he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where duty doctors declared the baby as died at around 1:30pm, Said Abdullah’s father kabir.
“Abdullah was born 16 days ago in a local hospital,” Kabir added with a tone of anguish.
Private car driver Kabir Hossain’s hometown is in Muladi upazila of Barisal. He lives in a rented tin-shed house of with his son and wife. – Staff Reporter
