Bring back your son home: Khaleda

Dhaka-BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday demanded holding trial of Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy after bringing him back home from the USA for his alleged involvement in plundering $ 300m.“Your son Joy has plundered $300 million…It is under investigation in America…Joy should be brought back to home. He should be tried,” she said while speaking at an iftar mahfil organized by city unit of the BNP at Ladies Club.
The former primer minister criticized the government to arrest journalist Shafik Rehman saying that he is languishing in jail without committing any crime.
“Shafik Rehman, he a journalist, he does not do politics…What was the fault of Shafik Rehman—the documents of plundering of $300m which is being investigated in the USA was in his possession,” she said.
Khaleda alleged that her party has become the target of the government as the government considers that they may stay in power permanently if BNP could be destroyed.
She said there is no good governance, rule of law and safety and security of the people in the country.
The BNP leader criticized the recent crackdown of the law enforcers saying that many people were killed during the combing operation but they could not detained the real criminals.
She alleged that the genuine criminals were from the ruling party that’s why they were not detained. The crackdown was carried out to show to the people at home and abroad.
Khaleda further alleged that they killed people in the name of crossfire after picking up anyone they like to. Some 16,000m people were arrested during the operation of them over 3,000 were the BNP leaders and activists, she alleged.
The BNP chief called upon the government to stop such harassment in the name of crackdown and assured them to extend cooperation if the government wants to arrest real criminals.
She criticized the government to stop prayer calls in the mosque on the pretext of security reason of the head of the government and questioned the motive behind it.
Khaleda alleged that the government is busy with plundering while Chhatra League cadres are engaged in grabbing wealth of people.
She said police do not find murder case accused but he as a member of Palriament can sign the attendance registered inside Parliament and on the other hand they can arrest BNP leaders and activists from anywhere. It cannot be accepted, she said.
Khaleda called upon the leaders and activists of the city unit of BNP to get united to resotre the democracy.
Presided over by city BNP convenor Mirza Abbas, the function was attended, among others, by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and Abdul Awal MIntoo.-STAFF REPORTER
