BRTA permits 500 new taxi-cabs

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) approved 500 new taxi-cabs in a bid to ease transportation crisis in the capital.The newly added taxi-cabs were licensed in air conditioned and non-air conditioned category as per ‘taxi cab regulation act-2010’ and likely to run in the highways and streets of the capital and nearby routs in Narayanganj, Joydevpur, Maoa and Paturia.
In this regard, BRTA Director Engineer Saiful Haque said, “A total of 250 taxi-cabs were given approval for army welfare trust and another 250 for Toma Construction and Company Ltd.”
He added: “No company is given approval to import reconditioned car older than three years as per ‘taxi cab regulation act 2010’.”
Regarding the facts and facilities of the Taxis BRTA director said, “The minimum engine capacity of new taxi-cabs is set at 1500cc.”
Air conditioned one would carry yellow color and sky blue color for non-air conditioned and cabs with 2000cc capacity or more will carry green color in body, he added.
He also said, “The cabs will run as per passengers’ direction not by the drivers. If the authority found any guilty in operation, the licensees will be seized.”
BRTA authority is preparing number plates and distributing smartcard driving licensees for the new taxi-cabs. – banglanews24.com
