BUET student Deep laid to rest in Pirojpur

Arif Raihan Deep, the student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), who was stabbed about three months ago and succumbed to his injuries early Tuesday, laid to eternal rest in family graveyard in Pirojpur district early Wednesday.Dead body of Deep reached at Tarabunia village home under Mativanga union of Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur district after 9:00 pm Tuesday night by road after holding first namaz-e-janaza at MA Rashid Bhaban on the BUET campus Tuesday morning.
Deep was laid to rest at family graveyards of the village home following second Namaje Janaza there attended by family members, relatives, and people from different walks of life.
After the death news of Deep (lamp) spread in Nazirpur, shadow of grief spread over the area. Hundreds of people from different works of life rushed to the house of Ali Azam and Shahanara Begum, parents of Deep.
Deep was the second of two sons of the parents and his father was a businessman of Jhalakathi district town and mother was service holder.
Riyad Morshed Rajuu, elder bother of Deep, was a former student of BUET, but later completed his course in law and working as a probationary lawyer in Dhaka, said S M Reazul Karim, former secretary of Supreme Court Bar Association and maternal uncle of Deep.
Deep was not only meritorious, gentle, calm and quiet, but also the Deep (light ) of our family, said groaning Abdul Majid Sheikh, paternal grand father of Deep.
Moktar Hossen, secretary Tarabunia ward Awami League, said dream of Deep to serve the country after passing from BUET ended by cruel terrorists’ followers of religion based politics.
Arif Raihan Deep, a third-year student of mechanical engineering and convening committee member, former science and technology affairs secretary of BUET unit Chhatra League, had been unconscious since an unnamed man had stabbed him in his room no. 222 at the Kabi Nazrul Islam Hall of BUET on April 9.
It was said that he has been attacked as along with some other students he stopped an Imam of a hall mosque providing Hefazat-e-Islam activists with food during their long march to Dhaka on April 5.
The imam, Abdul Alim, was suspended immediately in this connection.
Deep was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition and later moved to Square Hospitals in the capital and died about there 4:00 am Tuesday, family sources said.
BUET unit Chhatra League convener Aminul Hoque Polash blamed activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir for the attack said Raihan was blamed for the suspension of the Imam and he also received death threats over phone that time.
Raihan’s brother Riaz Morshed filed a case with the Chawkbazar police against unnamed people, said maternal Advocate S M Reazul Karim.
The Lalbagh police seized a bag containing a machete, a pair of pajamas, a panjabi and a cap from the hall. The police also detained a security guard of the hall, Zakir Hossain, for interrogation.
The Detective Branch arrested fourth-year civil engineering student Md Mezbah Uddin on April 18 at the campus in this connection. The police said that Mezbah had confessed to attacking Raihan in the hall.
Mezbah is reported to have told investigators that Raihan had beaten the BUET mosque Imam for providing Hefazat activists with food on April 5, maternal uncle Rezaul Karim said.
