Buses go off Nothern BD routes protesting extortion

Dhaka, Aug 3 – Plying of buses remained stopped from Wednesday night on Natore-Bogra and some other routes in Bangladesh’s northern region as the District Bus Owners Association enforced an indefinite bus strike protesting realisation of extortion on the route.Sajedul Islam Sagar, the general secretary of Natore Bus Owners Association, said the movement of buses on the routes of Natore-Bogra-Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj remained suspended from Wednesday night following rampant extortion from the passenger buses in Singra Upazila of the district.
The Rajshahi and Bogra Bus Owners associations took the decision to stop plying vehicles on the route protesting the incident, causing untold sufferings to thousands of passengers. – UNB
