Businesses to monitor Chittagong port’s management

The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) on Monday decided to form ‘Port and Customs Monitoring Cell’ comprising representatives from the port users’ organisations for its better management and ensuring transparency at all stages.   The decision came at a seminar, titled ‘Progress of Export-Import Trade of the Country Depends on Efficient and Transparent Management of Port’, held in the city on Monday.   Chaired by CCCI president Mahbubul Alam, the seminar was attended, among others, by MA Latif, MP, representatives of several chambers and organisatons, said a press release.   Latif suggested monitoring export-import through coordination among related organisatons and their leaders to reduce complexity in port operation.   Underlining the importance of improvement in port operations, Mahbubul Alam said 80-90 percent of total export-import of the country is done through Chittagong port.   He laid emphasis on proper policy for boosting the port’s efficiency and activities. – UNB
