Busws resume operation from Barisal to Dhaka

Buses from Barisal region resumed plying to Gabtali terminal of Dhaka from Saturday noon.
Bangladesh Bus Truck Owners’ Association called the strike against plying of buses to and from the Gabtali bus terminal connecting seven districts including Barisal, Patuakhali, Barguna, Khulna, Jessore, Satkhira and Narail on Thursday in protest against assault on transport workers and damaging vehicles.
Aftab Hossain, president Barisal Bus Owners Association, said the bus operation to Dhaka Gabtali bus terminal resumed from Saturday noon after the authorities assured that the culprits liable for ransacking vehicles and bus counters will be brought to book.
Dipak Chandra Das, vice  president  Barisal Bus Owners Association, said they have withdrawn the strike following a negotiation between the leaders of Bangladesh Bus Truck Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association and Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Union.
However it will take time to normalise the bus operation towards Dhaka Gabtali terminal due to huge traffic jam on Daulatdia-Paturia ferry crossing, Dipak added.
The owners and workers stopped bus operation to and from Gabtali terminal connecting the seven south-western districts since Thursday after ransacking a bus counter of Eagle Paribahon and forcibly taking away vehicles from the terminal area following death of a motorcyclist in a collision with a minibus of Eagle Paribahon on Wednesday.
However cancelling bus trips to Gabtali from Barisal region without any prior notice created sufferings of the Dhaka -bound road transport passengers and increased rush on road transports to Sayedabad bus terminal and water transports. –Our Correspondent, Barisal
