Drug-addiction destroys human resources: Speakers

Taking stern action against the drug smuggling, trafficking and addiction has become an urgent need for the sake of protecting the young generation from drug aggression as it is destroying the promising youth forces, speakers at a discussion said.
Expressing their grave concern over the unabated drug addiction in the city and on its outskirts, they urged the law enforcement agencies and others concerned to expedite the anti-drug drives to make the city free from the curse.
Department and Drugs and Narcotics Control organized the discussion in Rajshahi Medical College Auditorium here on Saturday to create awareness among the youths in this regard.
Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury in the chair.
DIG of Police of Rajshahi Range Meer Shahidul Islam, Additional Commissioner of RMP Sarder Tamij Uddin, SP of Rajshahi Alamgir Kabir and Civil Surgeon Dr Shahidul Islam spoke as special guests.
Lawmaker Badsha said many of the youths are being addicted with various destructive drugs creating manifold problems in society.
He added that the young generation especially the students of universities including medical colleges and engineering universities are being addicted with various drugs along with injecting ones, which is a painful matter for society.
Badsha apprehended that the situation, if allowed, might reach an epidemic form.
He, however, emphasized the need for a concerted effort of all quarters so that the society will be freed from the irritation of drug addiction. -BSS, Rajshahi
