Candidates urged to abide by electoral code of conducts

Speakers in a function on Monday urged the candidates and their workers to abide by the electoral code of conducts in 4th upazila elections properly to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the pre and post election period.
“The candidates and their workers may face different types of complexities including fine and conviction by the courts on charge of violating the electoral code of conduct in the election areas side by side with canceling his or her candidature,” they said.They made the comments while addressing a meeting organized by district election office on electoral code of conduct for the chairman and the vice chairman candidates in Sadar upazila polls at the
conference room of district collectorate office here in the afternoon.Deputy Commissioner (DC) M Ehsan-e-Elahi who is the chief coordinator of the upazila polls-2014 here addressed the function as the chief guest while additional deputy commissioner (General) and returning officer Abu Bakar Siddique presided over the meeting.The meeting was also addressed, among others, by additional police super M Mosarrof Hossain, executive magistrate Makfurul Hasan Abbasi, upazila election officer Shaninur Alam, officer in charge of Sadar Thana Gopal Chandra Chakrabartee, chairman candidates Sheikh Samad Azad, Mihir Ghos and Arafat Akter Neela and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.In the meeting, the DC said the mobile courts led by executive magistrates would be on duty in all the 13 unions of the upazila during the pre and post election period.The four-tier security measures with the members of Army, RAB, BGB and police had been taken to hold the elections in the upazila on March 15 in third phase in a free, fair and neutral way, the DC added.Besides, many pragmatic decisions were also taken to hold the election in the upazila peacefully during the open discussion of the meeting.All the chairman and vice chairman candidates and their representatives and union parishad chairmen including journalists of print and electronic media participated at the meeting. -BSS, Gaibandha
