Charge framing against 18-party leaders June 9

A Dhaka court on Monday deferred the hearing on charge framing against 29 leaders of BNP-led 18-party alliance, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in a case filed for explosion of bombs at the secretariat on April 29, last year.Judge-in-Charge Dr Akhteruzzaman of the Metropolitan Senior Special Tribunal passed the order after the defence lawyers submitted a petition seeking time.
Twelve BNP leaders including Shahid Uddin Chowdhuty Annie MP, Abdus Salam, member secretary of Dhaka City BNP and Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel appeared to the court today.
Detective Branch (DB) police on May 31, last year framed charges against 29 accused in the case for exploding two bombs at the Secretariat on April 29 during the opposition-enforced countrywide hartal (shutdown).
The shutdown was enforced across the country to press for opposition’s demand to trace BNP leader M Elias Ali and restore the nonparty caretaker government system.
