Charge-framing hearing against 41 opposition leaders Aug 14

A Dhaka court on Wednesday deferred until August 14 the charge-framing hearing against 41 opposition men, including BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed, in a case filed over March 6 city violence.Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of the Speedy Trial Court-6 passed the order following time petitions filed by four of the accused.
The other accused include BNP leaders Mirza Abbas, Amanullah Aman, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee and Barkatullah Bulu, and Jubo Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal.
Ten accused, including Gayeshwar and Aman turned up to the court on Monday.
Lawyers of Moudud, Mirza Abbas, Bulu and Alal filed separate time petitions citing various reasons.
After hearing, the court granted the time petitions and fixed August 14 for hearing charge-framing against the opposition leaders and activists.
On April 16, the same court took cognisance of the charges against the opposition men.
On March 23, police submitted the charge sheet to the court against the 41 leaders and activists of the opposition alliance in this connection.
Police filed the case against 44 opposition leaders and activists for torching vehicles and creating panic among people in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on March 6.
The names of three opposition activists were dropped from the charge sheet as their involvement was not proved during the investigation. (Source: UNB)
