Charge sheet in Madrasah student Nushrat murder case Wednesday

Dhaka, May 28 – In a major development, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is going to submit the much-awaited charge sheet of Feni madrasah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi’s murder case before a Feni court Wednesday seeking death penalty of 16 people, who were involved in connection with the killing incident.
In a press briefing, PBI chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar yesterday said that 16 people, including are Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa’s ex-principal Siraj Ud Doula and local Awami League leader Ruhul Amin were involved in connection with the killing case.
“We have found the involvement of 16 people in the arson attack on the madrasa girl that led to her death. After scrutinizing all documents of the case, we are going to submit the charge sheet seeking death penalty of all accused,” deputy inspector general (DIG) of the PBI came up with the disclosure at the PBI headquarters in Dhanmondi.
“In the 772-page charge sheet, the role of each accused in the incident is given in detail. Ninety-two witnesses have been included in the final charge-sheet,” he informed.
According to the charge sheet, Sonagazi madrasa principal Siraj has been made prime accused and consequently the death penalty has also been sought for him. The death penalty has also been sought for the remaining other 15 accused of taking part in the killing, aiding and abetting the killers of Nusrat.
The other accused are Nur Uddin, Shahdat Hossain Shamim, Maksud Alam alias Moksud councilor, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, Jabed Hossain alias Sakhwat Hossain Jaber, Hafez Abdul Kader, Absar Uddin, Kamrun Nahar Moni, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Champa/Shampa, Abdur Rahim Sharif, Eftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, Mohammad Shamim and Mohiuddin Shakil.
Soon after hearing about the development of charge sheet of the case, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said that the whole nation has been demanding exemplary punishment of all those people, who were involved in the killing of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The government has taken all necessary steps for holding and finishing the trial proceedings of the case quickly considering the importance of the people desire, as the people irrespective of religion, caste, profession and age have demanded capital punishment for the accused within a short time, the chief law officer of the state said.
“In the meantime, the government has arrested most of the accused of Nusrat murder case. I hope the trial proceedings against the accused will start very soon,” Alam said.
Nusrat Jahan Rafi, the madrasah girl from Feni’s Sonagazi Upazila, who was set on fire on April 6, suffered 80% burns succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 10 night. Nusrat was kept on life support at DMCH since April 8. – Staff Reporter
