Charged framed against Rony for death of 2 in Eskaton

Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Sunday framed charge against Bakhtiar Alam Rony in the case filed for shooting two persons to death in city’s Eskaton area last year.Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shamsunnahar of the court set April 11 to record the depositions of the witnesses.

Rony is a son of Pinu Khan, an MP of a reserved seat for women, and also the General Secretary of Mohila Awami League.

Earlier on February 28, the court fixed March 6 to pass order on indictment after charge hearing.

On July 21 last year, Sub-Inspector Dipak Kumar Das of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and also Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.

Rony was made the only accused in the charge sheet while a jeep driver and his three friends have made prosecution witnesses.

An auto-rickshaw driver, Yakub Ali and a rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim were critically injured in the random firing from a black Land Cruiser Prado in city’s New Eskaton Road area around 1:45am on April 14, last year.

Later, Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while Yakkub died at the hospital on April 23.

Bakhtiar Alam Rony was allegedly inebriated and lost his patience after being stuck in traffic snarl. Then in a fit of rage, he fired indiscriminately from his pistol at midnight.

Rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim’s mother filed the case against some unidentified people on April 15, two days after the incident with Ramna Model Police Station. On June 1, last year, the law enforcers arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing.
