Charges framed against Mahmudur & Amar desh

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Thursday framed charges against now closed the daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and eight others in an arson case.Additional Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Ali Masud Sheikh framed charges against the accused after charge hearing under the Sections 143, 435, 427 and 34 of the Penal Code. Mahmudur Rahman was produced to the court on the occasion. He himself conduced the hearing on the charge framing as he had no confidence on his lawyers.

Other accused persons include Anwaruzzaman alias Anwar Commissioner and BNP’s 39 ward unit President Lutfar Rahman.

On the occasion Mahmudur Rahman sought time to engage new lawyer on his behalf. Earlier, time petitions were filed on six dates on behalf of Mahmudur Rahman. The court rejected his latest petition on Thursday. However, he pleaded himself not guilty in the case.

On March 17, 2013, miscreants set fire to a passenger bus in front of Farmview Super Market in city’s Farmgate area. Later, the driver of the bus, Anwar Hossian Babu filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station in connection with the incident.

On April 20 in 2014, Sub-Inspector Rajibul Islam of Tejgaon Police Station submitted the charge sheet of the case against nine people, including Mahmudur Rahman.
