Police have detained Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s (JCD) acting president Bazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed. Abed is one of the Vice Presidents of the BNP’s student wing.He had been serving as acting president after JCD president Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel was arrested on Dec 6. Earlier on Nov 17, Chhatra Dal general secretary Habibur Rashid was arrested.
Abed was nabbed from the Elephant Road area at around 2:30pm on Saturday during the BNP-led 18-Party alliance’s blockade, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner at Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Police, however, did not say why he was detained. Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders say Abed was held while preparing to take out a procession in support of the blockade.
Several top BNP had also been arrested and are now behind bars facing charges for violence during the main opposition’s ongoing movement.-bdnews24.com
