A group of miscreants murdered Law Affairs Secretary of district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and its General Secretary of Ward No- 16 unit Shahin Alam here last night, police sources said.The miscreants chopped Shahin Alam, 25, son of late Osman Gani of Medical Purbo Gate area near a clinic at Dhap Shimulbag area in the city with sharp weapons at around 7:45 pm and fled the scene injuring him critically.The local people rushed to the spot, rescued Shahin and admitted him to the nearby Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries at about 10 pm last night.Kotwali police rushed to the spot soon after the incident, conducted overnight drives at different places in the city to nab the criminals and handed over the body to his relatives after conducting its autopsy at RMCH morgue today.The process of filing a murder case was in progress and hectic efforts were on to arrest the killers, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana Syed Shahabuddin Khalifa told BSS at 1:30 this noon.“Primary investigation shows that a group of local miscreants murdered JCD leader Shahin following a long-term previous enmity over local issues among themselves and police will be able to arrest the killers very soon,” the OC added. -BSS, Rangpur
