Chhatra Dal president Jewel released on bail

After around six months of imprisonment, president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel was freed from jail on bail on Tuesday. Jewel was released from Kashimpur High Security Central Jail around 9:15pm, JCD senior vice president Bazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed told journalists. He said several hundred leaders and activists of the BNP student body received their president at the jail gate with bouquets. Police arrested Jewel from a house in the city’s Uttara are on December 6. Earlier on Sunday, the High Court granted bail to the JCD presidents for six months in five cases filed against him with different police stations in the capital between January and November last year in connection with vandalism, torching vehicles during hartals and blockades, and May-5 Hefajat-e-Islam disorder at Motijheel Shapla Chattar. Earlier on Monday, JCD general secretary Habibur Rashid Habib was released from Dhaka Central Jail. – UNB
