Chief Justice finds flaws in Bangabandhu murder probe

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha on Tuesday said more ‘big fish’ were involved in the conspiracy of Bangabandhu murder, and those people did not face trial because of flaws in the investigation into the case. The Chief Justice came up with the remark at the inaugural programme of a blood donation camp, marking the National Mourning Day at Supreme Court Auditorium organised by the SC.

Analysing the case documents it was found that there was a deep-rooted conspiracy behind the murder of Bangabandhu and his family which has been mentioned in the verdict, the Chief Justice added.

Terming the day a tragic one in history, he said,” The verdict clearly mentioned it was a planned criminal crime….a planned murder. It’s more painful that the trial of the murder had been kept halted through an indemnity ordinance.”

Sinha also described the murder as a cowardly act saying the motive of the killers was to wipe out the entire family of Bangabandhu from history.

When reporters asked the Chief Justice after the inauguration about the recent debate over the verdict annulling the 16th amendment to the constitution, he said he has nothing to say about it with the media as he will say at the court whatever to say.
