Child marriage foiled in Sylhet

Dhaka – Local administration foiled a child marriage bid in Bishwanath upazila in Sylhet on Friday.Locals and police said Sultana Begum, 14, daughter of Tarik Ullah of Ilamergaon village in Rampasha union of the upazila, was about to be married off to UK expatriate Osman Gani, 18, son of Sharif Ali of the same village,UNB News Agency Reported.Being informed about the marriage arrangement, officials of the upazila administration and police went to the village in the morning
and foiled the marriage.Later, family members of the girl and the UK expatriate boy went to the police station and gave undertaking not to marry off the girl before she comes to age.Upazila nirbahi officer Mohammad Mashhudul Kabir said they were able to thwart the attempt of the child marriage.Officer-in-charge of Bishwanath Police Station said they will in no way allow any child marriage in the upazila.
