Chittagong jail prisoner killed in fight with inmate

Dhaka, May 30 – A prisoner of Chattogram Central Jail was killed on Wednesday over infighting with his inmate, said Chattogram jail authority. Over the murder incident, Chattogram Central Jail’s jailor Nasir Ahmed filed a case at city’s Kotwali Police Station yesterday (Thursday) accusing deceased inmate Ripon Nath.
The deceased was identified as Amit Muhuri, 32, a notorious terrorist and accused in over 12 cases including several murders. Muhuri was a prisoner of cell no. 32, room no. 6. The jail authority said he was engaged in a fight with his inmate Ripon Natth on Wednesday evening and severely injured. The jail authority tried to give him treatment at jail first but due to profusely bleeding he was transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital at around 11:30pm. After reaching in CMCH the on duty doctors declared him.
Jailor Nasir Ahmed said, “At the room no.6 there were living three prisoners- Amit Muhuri, Ripon Natth and Belal. At one point of their altercation Ripon Nath hit Muhrui one the head by a brick and thus he injured severely in head.”
Ripon Nath, son of Narayan Chandra of Sitakunda in Chattogram was arrested in an Arms case about two months ago. He is accused in two cases filed under Act at Phaartali Police Station. Amit Muhuri was arrested by detectives on September 02, 2017 over a case filed over murder of his boyhood friend Imranul Karim.
Over the incident Chattogram Central Jail’s jailor Nasir Ahmed filed a case accusing Ripon Nath at Kotwali police station, said Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali police station
He was accused of killing his friend Juba League activist Mohammad Rasel in 2012 at city’s CRB area.
He was accused in the case of double murder– Juba League activist Saju Palit, 25, and a child named Arman, 8, in a gunfight at CRB area in 2013 over establishing supremacy in Railway tender. He was also accused in the murder of Chhatra League activist Mohammad yeasin at city’s Amtali area.
When the news of the death of Amit Muhuri his friends and followers gathered at CMCH Neurosurgery department. The friends of Amit vandalsied at the Neurosurgery department of CMCH at around 2am, said Jahirul Islam Bhuiyan, In-charge of CMCH police outpost. “The attackers broke the collapsible gate of the department and glass. They left the scene when police chased them,” added Jahirul.
In the meantime, Elius Hossain, deputy commissioner of Chattogram District Administration formed a one-member probe committee to investigate the matter. The DC said additional deputy commissioner Mashudul Kabir will investigate the issue and he was asked to submit the report within three working days. – Staff Reporter
