Several people were injured during a chase and counter-chase between BNP and ‘Ashol BNP’ in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Saturday.Witnesses said some supporters of ‘Ashol BNP’ marched towards the BNP office from Fakirapool crossing around 3:45 pm.
As they tried to enter the BNP office, some party activists obstructed them, triggering the chase and counter-chase between the two groups.
Police rushed to the spot and opened fire to bring the situation under control.
At one stage, police fired around 4-5 gunshots to disperse both the groups, said Assistant Commissioner (Paltan zone) Saifur Rahman.
