The Primary Education Completion (PEC) and Junior School Certificate (JSC) examinations will be held this year as usual as a proposal of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education seeking cancellation of the PEC examinations of class V did not get the Cabinet nod. The regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet was held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting at the Secretariat, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said the Cabinet did not approve the proposal seeking cancellation of the PEC examination system at class V for introducing Primary School Certificate (PSC) examination system at class VIII. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.
He said the Cabinet asked the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education to recast the proposal through massive scrutiny and resubmit it before the Cabinet since two ministries and a huge number of stakeholders are involved in it.
Mohammad Shafiul Alam said it would not be possible this year to cancel the PEC examination system as it would have to be done gradually through proper preparations since there are also some problems regarding necessary infrastructures. “The PEC and JSC examinations will be held this year as usual,” said the Cabinet Secretary adding that this is a huge activity. As a result, it would be not be possible to cancel the PEC examination this year.
He said in light of the National Education Policy, the government has already finalised its decision to extend primary education level up to class VIII from V while the secondary education will be from class IX to Class XII. Ministers and State Ministers and secretaries concerned were present.
