Climate change to cost 2pc of GDP by 2050

Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju on Monay informed Parliament that Bangladesh may witness loss of 2 percent and 9.4 percent of its total GDP by 2050 and 2100 respectively, if the world community doen’t take any steps to face adverse impacts of climate change.
The minister said Asian Development Bank (ADB) calculated the probable loss of Bangladesh due to the adverse impacts of climate change.He said the government has formulated Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan in 2009 and created Climate Change Trust Fund with its own financial resources to implement the action plan.
“So far, the government allocated Taka 2900 crore to the trust fund to protect the country from adverse impacts of climate change,” he said.
Besides, the minister said the government created Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund to get support from the donor countries and agencies.
“So far we received commitment of 187 million US dollar for the fund from donor countries and agencies,” he said.
