Dhaka – A court here today sent the mayor of Chapainawabganj municipality Md Nazrul Islam to jail after canceling his bail as he surrendered to the court in an explosive case. Public prosecutor Advocate Md Zobdul Haque said police arrested 21 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on August 1, 2016 from a night school at Chamagram under Sadar upazila while they were holding a secret meeting there.Police also recovered 30 cocktails and 500-gram gun powder and recorded a case with the police station under the Special Power Act.Nazrul Islam, leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was an accused of the case. He had been remaining in bail since December 6, 2016. The date for his next appearance to the court was April 5, 2017 but he did not appear before the court and a warrant of arrest was issued against him, advocate Zobdul added. Mayor of the municipality appeared before the court this noon but District and Session Judge Enamul Bari rejected his bail prayer and ordered to send him to the jail.
