‘Coins From Bangladesh’ unveiled

A book, titled ‘Coins From Bangladesh,’ a compilation of the history of coins found in this region from the ancient age to modern time, was launched here on Sunday.Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman unveiled the cover of the book, written by Prof Shahnawaz of Jahangirnagar University’s Archaeology department, at a city hotel in the evening.
The book contains the images of eye-stunning ancient coins that portray Bangladesh’s prehistoric culture and heritage.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Atiur said, “I’m sure this book will fascinate a lot of people with the strong cultural diversities that will come out of the coins of different eras. The book will also be a piece of our cultural treasure.”
CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Bangladesh Jim McCabe and CEO of Nymphea Karunangshu Barua also spoke on the occasion.
Atiur thanked Standard Chartered Bank for its initiative to publish the book, a guide to the coins in Bengal, especially circulated in the territory of Bangladesh, and taking part in portraying Bangladesh’s rich heritage. (Source: UNB)
