Communication for Development workshop begins

A three-day research workshop on ‘Communication for Development’ began in the city on Sunday to conduct a research on child rights in the country’s higher educational institutions.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) and United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) jointly arranged the workshop at a city hotel.

Addressing the inaugural function of the workshop, UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan said the workshop will play a significant role in designing curriculum and conducting participatory research in line with policy of ‘communication for development’ (C4D).

“We’ve to ensure basic education to improve the livelihood of the marginalized children. We need to be careful about other rights of the children,” he said.

Deputy Country Representative of Unicef Bangladesh Sheema Sen Gupta said the Bangladesh government is very committed to attain SDG’s target to establish child rights.
She said the collaboration with UGC is very important to address child rights in Bangladesh.

C4D Section Chief of Unicef Bangladesh Neha Kapil, academics from Ohio University and 11 public and private universities of Bangladesh, among others, were present at the function, said a UGC release.
